Kenya's GMO Deadlock Deepens as Millers Warn of Feed Shortages

Kenya's GMO import case remains stuck in court, with no ruling date in sight. Grain and feed millers, backed by livestock and crop stakeholders, are ramping up pressure on the government to approve imports, warning that continued delays could trigger a supply crisis for both flour and feed.

At the 5th Kenya Meat Expo (26–28 August), the government unveiled a national feed strategy to boost local feed and fodder production, particularly yellow maize, as a longer-term fix.
Stakeholders, however, are pushing hard for faster, short-term relief through biotech import approvals.
