Tanzania's feed manufacturing sector is set to expand with the groundbreaking of a new 200,000-tonne compound feed plant, driven by investment from Chinese producer Haid Group. The move follows Haid's recent acquisition of Grand Aqua's aquafeed mill in Egypt, underscoring the company's growing footprint across Africa's feed sector.
The Tanzania facility will produce feed for tilapia, layers and broilers, adding meaningful capacity to the country's aquaculture and poultry industries. But added capacity comes with a trade-off: rising demand for maize and soybean meal. Tanzania remains a net maize exporter for now, though sustained feed-sector growth may squeeze regional grain and oilseed supplies over time, strengthening the case for new crushing capacity and stronger ingredient supply chains.
